FX Matt Brewing Company Announces Sale of Flying Bison Brewing Brands to Hamburg Brewing Company

Utica, NY – November 7, 2025 – The FX Matt Brewing Company announced the sale of its Flying Bison Brewing Company brands to Hamburg Brewing Company of Hamburg, New York. The agreement transfers ownership of the Flying Bison brand family, including all associated recipes and trademarks, to Hamburg Brewing, ensuring the legacy of one of Buffalo’s pioneering craft beer names continues under local stewardship.

“Flying Bison has deep roots in Buffalo’s brewing history, and we’re proud of the role we played in supporting and sustaining that heritage over the past 15 years,” said Fred Matt, President and CEO of FX Matt Brewing Company. “Hamburg Brewing is a respected and community-focused craft brewery with a strong presence in Western New York. We’re confident they’re the right partner to carry the Flying Bison legacy forward.”

Under the new ownership, Hamburg Brewing Company will continue to produce and distribute Flying Bison’s signature beers ensuring continued availability for loyal fans throughout the region.

As part of the transition, the Flying Bison Taproom will close following its final day of service on Saturday, November 29, 2025. The taproom has been an important community space for Buffalo’s craft beer fans, and FX Matt Brewing Company extends its appreciation to all who supported it over the years. Both breweries emphasized their shared commitment to craft quality, local pride, and strengthening New York State’s independent brewing community.

Is Hamburg taking over the Flying Bison Taproom?

• F.X. Matt Brewing Company will continue to operate the Flying Bison Taproom in Larkinville through November 29th. We have no plans at this time to open a new taproom. 

Will Hamburg be accepting Flying Bison gift cards?

• No, we do not have the ability to. We encourage you to visit the FB taproom through the end of the month.

Is Hamburg canning this product / putting it on tap?

• Production of Flying Bison Beers has begun at HBC and will enter distribution as they are packaged. We will have a mix of Flying Bison beers on tap in our taproom in Hamburg.

Will Flying Bison still be available in stores?

• Yes! No retail changes are taking place. You can continue to purchase Flying Bison Beers are your favorite local retailer.
